Adult Philosophy

People become disturbed when their beliefs,
feelings and actions are not focused toward
achieving their goals; when the beliefs, feelings
and actions of others conflict with ours; or when
a person’s goals are socially and societally
inappropriate. Substance Abuse and
Dependence is an insidious, progressive problem
that interferes with a person’s ability to achieve
his or her goals.

The goal of Integrative Counseling is to help
people align their thoughts, feelings, and
behaviors and direct these attributes toward
achieving their goals in life. As substance abuse
and dependence impedes an individual’s ability
to achieve his or her goals, it is the goal of
Integrative Counseling to aid individuals to
achieve abstinence from the use of mood-
altering substances.
Integrative Counseling offers group,
individual, and family treatment for
Substance Abuse.  Maryland Certified to offer
Outpatient Treatment, as well as, DWI/DUI
education to address legal concerns following
a DUI/DWI.  For DUI/DWI specific
information, please see our
DUI/DWI page.

Groups are offered most days of the week and
at different times of the day to meet most
schedules. Clients most often choose one
particular group time as a “Regular Group”,
but may attend different times or days as
schedules change. Just call your therapist or
let them know you’ll be attending a different
time. We try to make this as easy as possible
to meet your needs. Clients may also choose
to attend multiple days per week to meet
their needs.

Call us to set up an assessment to see how we
might help you!
Suboxone and Buprenorphine for Opiate Dependence

Integrative Counseling is pleased to work with two psychiatrists who offer Suboxone or
Buprenorphine medication management to manage withdrawal from opiate drugs such as over
the counter pain medications or illegal opiate drugs.  Withdrawal from opiates has often been
described as feeling like having the flu; however, ten times worse!  Suboxone and Buprenorphine
treatment can eliminate withdrawal symptoms while it eliminates cravings, making it easier for
people to stay abstinent while they make needed life changes.

Clients are also encouraged to attend outpatient treatment groups in order to learn how to make
those needed changes while examining their own personal needs and goals.  Clients may choose
to attend an
Opiate Treatment Group where members of the group are all clients recovering
from opiate dependence or any of eight other treatment groups offered day and evening
throughout the week.  Clients choosing to attend group treatment may be eligible to either see
their doctor less often or
receive a reduced rate for group sessions.

Integrative Counseling has paired with Congruent Counseling Services to offer a dual diagnosis
IOP for young adults with substance use or dual mental health issues.  Because of the extent of
this program, Congruent Counseling has been able to create an intensive program that is both
certified by the State of Maryland and is covered by most insurance plans. This program is
appropriate for those young adults who may not wish to attend standard treatment models or
who have not been able to succeed at other treatment programs.  We are credentialed with most
major insurance companies.  We welcome working with other providers or programs.

        * Many of these young adults are parental dependant or codependent with parents.  Our
program will require parental involvement with the goal of helping parents to not enable.
        * Many young adults in treatment do not have jobs and have far too much free time.  We
will require 12 step attendance, work, exercise/recreation and counseling.
        * Over 65% of substance addicted clients also have depression or some other mental health
issue.  This statistic holds true for young adults who often have less ability to deal with
their issues.  All clients will be expected to work with an individual therapist.  We are
happy to work with therapists outside our office.
        * 50% of clients with mental health issues also self medicate or abuse substances.
        * Psychiatrist on staff who can prescribe Suboxone and other addiction treatment
           medications
        * We accept most major insurances!

Traditional addiction treatment often does not address mental health or family concerns to a
level needed for younger adults.  Mental health treatment often ignores addictive or abuse
issues.  Congruent Counseling seeks to address multiple issues at once – a whole person
approach.
